Political Healers defines “cultural trauma” as anything that impacts a group or community and changes it forever. There is no more of an apt description of the impact of climate disasters – hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, and freezes – on communities over the last 20 years.
In the last 2 years alone, more communities in more states across the U.S. and throughout the Caribbean have experienced an introduction to or an increase of storm activity and weather-related disasters. While the financial impact of these disasters is staggering, the loss of life, land, livelihoods, and access to life-giving resources continue to create devastating and generational consequences to the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being of impacted communities.
Join Political Healers as we hold space for story sharing and healing among our friends, family and neighbors who have been impacted by weather-related disasters. As another storm season is upon us – and it’s predicted that there will be an increase in intensity of storms this year – we also want to ensure that communities are prepared, in all of our PIES, and ready to respond! Come learn about the new rules that FEMA has rolled out to make federal disaster assistance more equitable. Come and learn about the role YOU can play – no matter where you live – to ensure that ALL of our communities and neighbors are safe, seen and heard, as this summer/fall storm season unfolds.
